In order for any person to truly make a difference in their own health and wellness, motivation is by far one of the most important things to consider. The definition of motivation is a derivative of the word motive, which comes from the Latin verb ‘to move’, but it also has a psychological attribute too. You can have the greatest workout plan and diet plan but they are meaningless without motivation. The mental part of the game is what drives an individual to lose weight or set a personal best lift.
But where does motivation come from? Some people get it from hiring a personal trainer which is great except most personal trainers cannot be with us around the clock. All day – every day, as we prepare for our daily fitness regimen, it’s important to remember why we are doing what we are doing. Whether it’s recovering from an injury or illness, overcoming obesity or living a fit life…we need to remember why….because it is what gives us the drive to achieve our goals. It’s what gets us up out of bed and to the gym, pool or track, even though we don’t feel like it.
So, when you are headed to the gym next time, or at the start of your day take a moment to sit down and reflect on WHY you are doing whatever activity you are doing. What is YOUR motivation? Is it more than the fact that your personal trainer is waiting for you? When you are sitting down for a meal, what is your motivation for what you are about to ingest? What goals do you want to achieve? Weight loss? Strength gains? Mass gains? Overall health and wellbeing? Maybe you want to be a professional athlete. Maybe you just had a baby and want to find your way back to your pre-pregnancy body. Maybe you just want to achieve something you never thought you could.
Now that you know what drives you….GET OFF YOUR ASS AND GO SWEAT IT OUT!
